The tank the highest number of which was made in WW II was the Soviet T-34

The T-34 is medium tank designed in the Soviet Union. It was introduced into the war in 1941. During the course of the whole war, 84,070 was manufactured. It weighs 26 tons and it was originally armed with a 76.2 mm high-velocity gun that made it superior in firepower compared to its contemporaries that year. Field Marshal von Kleist who commanded the 1st Panzer Group in Operation Barbarossa called it the "finest tank in the world" when he first encountered it. It is powered by the 38 litre Kharkiv V-2-34 diesel engine. It was a rugged vehicle with good protection and firepower suited to the Russian terrain.

The T-34 and its successor T-34-85 (bigger gun) was made it such numbers that it was not only the mainstay of Soviet armor but also the mainstay of war movies made until this day. Several Finnish war films have been made with functioning T-34's in them. The tank with the highest number manufactured are the successor of the T-54 and T-55 series.

Below is a clip from the Russian film White Tiger (2012). It is a duel between a German King Tiger and a T-34. It allows the viewer to sense the look and sound of the tank. The Tiger in the video, by the way, is not a real Tiger. It's another tank made to look like the Tiger, IS-2, I think. It is not even powered by a petrol engine.

Here's a real Tiger, the only one in the world still working at the Bovington tank museum in England:

Pack me two to take Markku!... I wonder which one they used in the movie Fury with Brad Pitt.

Hi Markku. Still prefer the Tiger tank though. The Imperial war Museum in London had a piece cut out from a Tiger. It was a cross section and was impressively thick. Can't believe it's the last one that still works. Looks very impressive.

The T-34 was a medium tank at the time but as you can see in the Russian film, trees the thickness of a man's thigh do not slot it down much and are ground to toothpicks under its tracks.

I agree with what you say but still prefer the Tiger.

Anyone would in a one-on-one.

That what I was thinking. Rather be in the Mercedes than the Skoda. Will catch the upvotes tomorrow. Been running low again.

T-34 was........is a fine machine. Apparently They are still active in Vietnam. Heard that even North Koreans are using them.

Not the T-54 or the T-55?

Not sure about later models. Actually T-34's are still active in some other countries (I don't remember which) as well. It has one of longest life span in active service.

Think I saw something about an African country. I know a few years ago Angola had some. Weren't great but look who was using them.

Namibia has four according to wikipedia.

the old South West Africa. Knew they were close by. I remember when we went in there they were around then.

Just checked Zimbabweans high spending Defence Force budget has some of the T-34's a swell. Maybe less running as they probably use the parts of others to keep some going.

I always liked the Sherman, I don't know why.

You've maybe seen it in a lot of movies. But it was horrible tank for the crews in WW II. Many an Allied tank crew would have to be scraped off the inside of the tank after taking a direct hit by a German Tiger or an 88 mm anti-tank gun. It wasn't called a Tommy cooker for nothing. Without air power to help the Germans would've slaughtered the Allied in their Shermans. Its protection was totally inadequate and it originally had a woefully inadequate gun. It was upgraded later to a version that could actually kill the German tanks.

Here's a movie clip that's accurate in the sense that it shows how helpless individual Shermans were against even a single Tiger.

It's probably true, well, it was an opinion, based on appearance, I never thought about its characteristics or performance. You are very pragmatic @markkujantunen :)

Hello markku, what a good fact about this tank. I did not know the serial and the importance of this tank in history. It is always good to know. It is incredible that they were built more than 70 years ago.

Wow! They were manufactured 84,070 is a great siphra for a war tank.

These tanks were of great help for the combat of the Second World War, good data, thanks for sharing them with us

Great tank .they were able to build this kind of tank as of that time .I wonder which one they will build now .
