Bedtime Facts (19/365) - Finland's Highest Point is not a Mountain Summit

The highest point of Finland is close to the highest summit of the fell Halti in the extreme northwest of the country (at the tip of the arm). It is at an altitude of 1,324 m from sea level. It is on the Norwegian border. The highest peak of Halti is at 1,365 m.

There was an initiative in Norway to donate the highest summit of Halti to Finland. But it fell through because of the Norwegian constitution that defines Norwegian territory as "indivisible and inalienable".

Norway must be a very charitable country. They donate a Christmas tree to our town every year! 😁

You live in the UK?

Yes I do. On the south coast. The tree is donated to Hove.

Could it be that when it comes to giving mountain tops, it's really the thought that counts? :) Nice idea for sure!

Oltaispa saatu se vuoren palanen :(

Ei voitu, koska Norjan perustuslaki. :(

Niinpä

Looks like a tombstone on the top of it :d

The casting of the stones is perfect.

Is it hard to breathe here? It's pretty high I must admit... And I'm also afraid of height :(((

It is easier to breath up there than on a commercial airliner. Cabin pressure is set at a value equivalent to an altitude of 2500 m above sea level in commercial aviation. That altitude is medically harmless.

I'm sure the view is nice but the slopes of Halti are not very steep. See the picture below:

If that's not on a mountain summit then where is it?

At a point very close to the summit. The mountain Halti is divided between Norway and Finland.

Okay interesting.

the fog behind this picture make it more beautiful

The height of that summit reminds me of the angel's jump in the Bolivar state, Venezuela
Saludos cordiales
Best regards

I don't want to be an arse, but I thing this sign is pretty ugly. xD

Looks like a grave hahah 😌

That's pretty high!

Well, not really. In most countries, there is a higher summit. Even the United Kingdom has a higher mountain (Ben Nevis, 1345 m). I can easily name all the European countries with lower highest elevations:

Denmark
The Netherlands
Belgium
Luxemburg
Ireland
Estonia
Latvia
Lithuania
Belarus
Moldova
San Marino
Monaco
Malta
The Vatican.

That's 14 countries. There are 44 countries in Europe.

If its not a mountain than what is it? and if you have more photos of this mountain share please its a new thing for me, i say thanks to share it on steemit

I have no more photos of it. The highest elevation point is close to the summit.
