Lakhta Center in St. Petersburg, Russia will be the tallest bulding in Europe when the contruction work is finished
Lakhta Center is in the northwestern corner of St.Petersburg on the coast along the motorway towards Finland. The skycraper will be 462 m tall. It is already that tall but the uppermost floors are not completely ready yet. The building will be ready for use in the third quarter of this year.
Lakhta Center will be the new headquarters of Gazprom. It was designed by the British architect Tony Kettle.
End of facts
St. Petersburg is a photographer's paradise. Designed by European top architects of the time, it is full of extremely beautiful buildings and palaces. I've been there a few times. I think one of the most beautiful places in the world is the Peterhof Palace about 20 km to the southeast of the city centre. One of the great things about a place like central St. Petersburg is that the entire area is designed according to timeless architectural principles with everything having just the right proportions offering so many opportunities for the perfect shot everywhere that it is hard to decide what to shoot.
Here's a video published showing the building:
Hi Markku. St Petersburg is on my list to visit. i have seen photographs and I like the old buildings. This new building I am sure will add to the skyline.

Some citizens and groups have opposed it because they think it interferes with the historical skyline of the city. Lakhta Center is outside the centre and I happen to like both classical architecture and ultramodern steel and glass skyscrapers like this.

I agree with you. Old and new can go together as long as it is tastefully done. Not a fan of concrete but glass and metal does look good.

Hello Markuu! ... What a coincidence !. Today I saw the "representatives of our government" attend an event in St. Petersburg. It will be there where they will go when there is no riches left to vnzla. They always look for luxurious places to spend their vacations and send their families.
