Go Is the Oldest Boardgame in Existence
The game of go was invented in China over 2500 years ago. It is considered to be one of the four arts of gentleman-scholars of Chinese antiquity. Along with many other cultural influences, go (or 棋 or weiqi in Chinese), was adopted by the Japanese and the Koreans. Go became known in Japan the 6th century. Under the Tokugawa shogunate, Japan became a unified state. The shogunate began to organize annual tournaments in which the best player was determined. That player had the honor of becoming the minister of go (godokoro).
Nowadays, there are millions of go players mostly in China, Japan and Korea. There are about 20,000 organized players in Europe and a number of players of the same order of magnitude in North America.
Go has very simple rules but its combinatorial complexity is greater than that of any other board game. Despite that, AlphaGo, an AI system developed by the British company DeepMind achieved a decisive victory against the best human player, the Chinese top professional Ke Jie, in a five game match in May 2017. The best human Chess player was beaten by AI already in 1997.

I just did the tutorial, and I have not forgotten yet how to play
XD
The GO personally seems to me a great game, but in these latitudes as far as I know we are very few who know that it exists and how it is played and it's a pity because it limits the possibility of playing it, I remember that the first board that I had, I did it myself and like stones i use black and white jewelery pieces
:P

That's what a friend of mine and I did in the beginning. We made our own equipment.
If you live in Caracas or one of the other big cities, it's worth your time to try and find out if there's a club where you live. To my knowledge, there exist clubs in nearly every Latin American country.

Here in Barcelona there is no GO club I played it in the school chess club
in Caracas there was one a few years ago, but I do not know if it is currently working
But I do not think that with the current situation of the country the club keeps working

Luckily, you can always play on the Internet. Try Internet Go Server (IGS) or Kiseido Go Server (KGS).

I played online, chess and GO, but after years of playing watching your opponent and feeling the pieces in your hands, it is not the same, so from a time here I do not do it anymore.
But if I tell you that the first thing I will do when I arrive in Europe will be to go to a local club to play
XD

I'm an European amateur 3 dan. If this were aikido or karate, I'd be one of the instructors of your local club.

Two GO post in a row u really like this game , well @markkujantunen you like hypothetical situations, because I have you one for you, If you could only play one last time GO against the opponent that you wish, you can ignore all the laws you want, he or she can be fiction character, be alive or dead, historical person and why.

That would be my last opportunity to play?
That person would have to know how to play. It would also be able to communicate with that person. Perhaps I'd like to play with admiral Yamamoto. He is told to have been a go player and he had lived in the US as a young naval officer and thus knew English. Yamamoto was also an intelligent man and a visionary. He had to endure a huge amount of shit from the Japanese ultra-nationalists and other members of Japanese top brass of his time.

After the game, I'd discuss the post-war world order with Yamamoto who'd probably be very interested to hear about it since he died in April 1943 when the plane that he was on was ambushed and shot down by American fighters.

Admiral Yamamoto is likely to have been a weaker player than I. He was an amateur and I'm stronger than most amateurs. But that is not important. Based on what I know about him, he was a cool person. It is the discussion after the game that I'd be most interested in.
