Top Bar Bee Hive Inspection, Winter 2018steemCreated with Sketch.

Inspecting hives in the winter can be difficult. You want to avoid opening the hive and allowing cold air in which will kill many bees.

I've found a good way to monitor the hives without causing any disturbance, using a less than $25 endoscope available from Amazon. Link below.

While it doesn't give you the ability to do a complete inspection, it can answer questions like "Are the bees still alive, or do I need to order a Nuc". It can also alert you to rodent activity, and let you verify the main body is being kept clean (no dead bees piling up inside). Plus, being able to see the bees in the hive without disturbing them is pretty cool.

I find this is particularly well-suited to Top Bar hives which are particularly susceptible to cold.

Hope this helps any aspiring beekeepers out there.

Dtube doesn't work on my phone for some reason. If I remember I will watch this when I get home. You'll probably need to get more followers to get better exposure for your posts. Lots of commenting helps especially when you are just starting.

Yeah, I was experimenting with the magnet links, but my VPN may not be tunneling torrent data properly.

This was just another 20 second test upload. I have more content that Im editing, so my real posts are yet to come.

Not just your DTube video that doesn't work on my phone. All of them.

Do you know what the magnet links do? I've been uploading to DTube but don't know what they are for.

Magnet links work in a torrent client. That allows me to host the video myself through bit torrent as a backup. Others who keep it active will then also share the hosting, similar to how IPFS works, but you can dedicate bandwidth to specific videos this way.

I've found a D.tube app in the android store that seems to work better than viewing the videos directly in the android steem client. Things are a little behind for iOS though.

Hmm. I didn't realize there was a DTube app. I will have to check it out.
