Beer review - Lucky Buddha. Well at least the bottle looks good..

After last night's little adventure with blowing my mouth apart courtesy of some chili shrimp paste (You can read the hilarious cooking adventure right here) for tonight's meal I'm sticking with what I know. Namely a korma curry out of a jar that won't have me setting the table alight with every breath.

The beer I'm trying with it? The happiest beer bottle in the shop, Lucky Buddha.

This is another one of those beers that I have tried years ago but couldn't remember a single thing about. Which doesn't bode well for it really as obviously nothing stood out. Would it pass the means test tonight though?

Er...no.

For a start it smells like a combination of wet cardboard and dried grass. Like you just mowed a dead lawn and in sympathy, covered it in wet cardboard. (Why you'd do that is beyond me, that's just what I'm smelling here.)
Secondly the head disappears faster than you can pour it leaving you with a glass of what suspiciously looks like cloudy apple juice.
There's a good point in here (somewhere) and that is that it's a bit on the slightly sweet side. This is handy for a couple of reasons - drinking it while eating plain rice perhaps and masking the fact that there's nothing else going on here. No seriously it's carrying more water here than a water truck at your local speedway - so it's sweet water with some alcohol thrown in for good measure.

The bottle? It's a work of art. Save it, spray paint it a solid color and pop it on your mantle for instant street cred.
If only they spent as much time on the beer as they did on what's holding it...sigh.

1.5 meals in a jar out of 5.
