[Craft Beer Blog] 精釀啤酒 - 聖誕精釀啤酒品飲聚會🍺 Christmas Beer tasting 🍺

普世歡騰，聖誕除了借耶穌之名大肆消費外，與友共酌是少不了的。兩個人，兩個胃，四支佳釀，配上一個午後時光，醉人也！

Christmas is not just for shopping, but also a great time for beer! I met one of my beer geek friend and we finally finished 4 beers in a afternoon, wonderful right?

先來一支新到港的美國酒廠 Prairie Artisan Ales Funky Gold Mosaic，貴為Ratebeer top100酒廠之一，出品起碼有一定保證。Brett Yeast風味十分強烈，強烈的馬汗、農埸、山羊、皮革、泥土香主導，但Mosaic酒花的風味則略為隱約。總體酸度平衡出色，餘韻乾爽不帶辛辣感。作為第一支酒確實沒有挑剔的話。

We started from Prairie Artisan Ales Funky Gold Mosaic. As a top 100 breweries in Ratebeer.com, their products are undoubted. Very strong Brett yeast aroma and flavor like barnyard, earthy, horse blanket and leathery. But, Mosaic character might be a bit of absence. Well balanced sour flavor and smooth, dry finished without any harshness. As a starter, wonderful!

之後是最近十分喜愛的比利時酒廠De Dochter van de Korenaar出品的La Renaissance Silver，是一支呈現最傳統造法的IPA。根據其中一個歷史說法，最原始的IPA是由18世紀英國生產，為了運往印度供給當地英國國民，當時的做法就是加入大量啤酒花防腐並放入酒桶陳釀以應付長時間的海上運輸旅途。所以這支酒就仿照以前的麥芽、啤酒花配方並放入酒桶陳釀1年。

它的表現確實驚喜萬分，絕不是現今流行的West Coast風味，反而更似是一支Hoppy的Wild Beer，木桶風味如香草、木質感及Brett Yeast的表現十分凸出，味道上亦帶有英式啤酒花如花香、泥土香的風味。超級有魅力！

After that, we tried the beers from De Dochter van de Korenaar Brewery, Belgium, which is one of my favorite breweries recently. I believe that lots of people have tried enough west coast style IPA, so De Dochter van de Korenaar La Renaissance Silver will be one of your choice to refresh your palate. According to one of the historical discourse, IPA has been created from 18th Century which was the beer transported from England to India for those English citizens who lived in India. The beers were dried-hopped and aged in a barrel in order to preserve in the long period of sea delivery. So De Dochter van de Korenaar La Renaissance Silver is trying to represent the original IPA character. The malt and hop profits follow the original type and age the beer in a barrel for a year. It tasted like a hoppy wild beer instead of west coast IPA. Very oaky with the hints of vanilla and woody aroma. Moderately strong brett flavor with the support of English hops character like floral and earthy flavor. Impressive IPA in 2017!

De Dochter van de Korenaar的好表現又何止如此! 冬天總要有一支黑啤才稱得上合格。Sans Pardon Pure-Oak亦沒有令人失望。煙燻香味夾帶著濃郁的烘焙感如朱古力和美式咖啡一樣，香草般的木桶風味亦十分明顯，再加上豐厚的口感卻沒帶太明顯的酒精感(10%!)，平衡度很高的一款黑啤。

One De Dochter van de Korenaar is not enough, so we tried De Dochter van de Korenaar Sans Pardon Pure-Oak. Rich roasty character with the hints of chocolate and Americano followed with medium smoky aroma. Vanilla-liked oak influence was obvious. Full bodied with quite creamy texture. Even it is 10% ABV, but no obvious alcohol warmth. Very well-balanced stout.

除了黑啤，冬季節日總要有一支冬季啤/聖誕啤。同樣來自比利時的Fantôme de Noël是一支難以定義的啤酒，它既有Dark Saison的焦糖麥芽、深色麥芽骨幹配上明顯的香料風味如肉豆蔻、黑胡椒；又有如Oud Bruin般麥芽、果香及酸度的平衡。但不論是什麼啤酒風格，都是一支節日歡愉的好酒！

Apart from dark beer, there should be a winter beer/Christmas to connect the theme! Fantôme de Noël, from Belgium, is quite surprising us. It showed the character of dark saison including caramel, dark malt backbone and rich spicy aroma and flavor like nutmeg and black peppery. At the same time, it showed Oud Bruin like the balance of malt, fruitiness and sourness. But, no matter what beer style it is, it was a good beer in Christmas definitely!
