Beer drinkers live longer, says study

You didn't read it wrong, drinking alcohol moderately makes people live longer. At least that's what a study led by psychologist Charles Holahan, at the University of Texas, Austin, points out.

But how so?

The study was carried out with 1824 people between 55 and 65 years old and considered several variables such as socioeconomic level and physical activity.

Mortality rates were found to be higher for those who had never consumed alcohol and lower for those who regularly consumed. To the surprise of the team of scholars, the rates were even lower for moderate consumers - who enjoyed one to three drinks a day.

The study had a total duration of 20 years.

Data collection
Of the 1,824 study participants, only 41% of those who drank moderately died prematurely, compared with 69% of those who did not consume alcohol.

Meanwhile, those who consumed regularly did better than those who abstained, with a mortality rate of 60%.

Despite the increased risk of cirrhosis and various types of cancer - not to mention addictions, accidents, and processes - those who drink are less likely to die prematurely than those who don't drink.
One possible explanation for this is that alcohol makes people more relaxed and with that there is a greater chance of making friends, increasing the circle of friends, and this connection with people is essential to maintain physical and mental health.

Who drinks beer lives longer?
Those who do not drink showed greater signs of depression when compared to those who drank, moreover, it has been proven that moderate alcohol consumption is beneficial for the heart and circulation.
