Yesterday I've been round @tubequeen's for an all grain brewing session. And since you can't brew without having some beer I thought it would be the perfect event to try out the Petrus Aged Pale. I was looking forward to this. It's not everyday you get the chance to try a beer that's been aged for 2 and a half years in foeders.
This is Petrus' mother beer, the one that they use in blending their different beers to give them their unique taste and it was brought to the market and turned into a classic by the famous Michael Jackson (the beer guy, not the pop god). There's a great article about this here if you're interested.
It pours golden amber with a beautiful head that mostly disappears after about 1 minute.
It's got a fruity aroma, like limes maybe, you can smell the sourness and you get an oaky whiff.
The taste is crisp and surprisingly clean; at first you'll be hit by its strong sourness and the sweetness of the malts will mellow that down for you. After a second or two you find the oak taste with a grape and lime flavour showing up. It is a 7.3% ABV beer and the dryness makes you think of wine.
Overall it is a delicious beer, it's perfectly balanced and you can tell how much work and time went into producing it. You need to try it if you can get your hands on, it is the beer that defined the sour beer category in the US.
And now it is time for the bonus, just a couple of vids from last night's brew. I'm sure @tubequeen will make a detailed post on it to answer any questions you guys might have.
This is the all grain setup that was used yesterday. In decreasing height order we've got the kettle or hot liquor tank, the mash tun and the boil pot.
Have a look at the mash tun in action!
Thanks for the read guys!
ok well Now i'm thirsty!!! 😲🍺

I'm new to Petrus but I am really impressed. Awesome beers and am already hyped for this evenings session, have a few more of their beers that I've never tried before! Homebrewing is probably my favourite hobby :D
Am looking forward to updates on your motorhome renovation. That looks like a cool project!
Cheers

Homebrewing has been my favorite hobby too, for the last several/many years. What other hobby gives you such enjoyable rewards? (Maybe being a chef or baker, but that's it).
Assuming you're a decent homebrewer, that is :) Nothing worse than a 5 hour brewday, 3 week fermantation, 2 week carbonating, and a taste test at the end that makes you sad. Haven't had too many disappointments like that over the years, but it's always a bit of a question mark when you put the glass to your lips for the first time.

I only started homebrewing last August if I remember correctly and it's just the hobby that keeps on giving. I haven't had any undrinkable ones, just some that I didn't particularly like, but even those turned pretty good after a few months of maturing.
It also allows you to give great gifts that are universally appreciated! :D

Lovely drinks you can make at home? Hard not to be passionate about them. haha.
If you're gonna be in Europe at some point I'm gonna send you some of my brother's wine. Now that's an experience you need to have - spontaneous fermentation, 0 added sugar, 0 preservatives, pure grapes and nothing else! We'll make a homebrewer out of you, don't you worry :)
Cheers
