Lightning Beer Review: Cuvee des Trolls - Belgian Ale by Dubuisson Brewery

in beer •  7 years ago  (edited)

I bought this beer in a local supermarket, because I wanted to try something I hadn't tasted before. Sadly, they only had it available in cans, but that didn't bother me too much, although I definitely prefer glass bottles. I just drank this beer at home on my small little terrace, enjoying the last rays of sunshine of that day.

Taste

This beer went down really easy and had a very pleasant, though complex flavour. A little bit on the sweeter side, almost no bitter taste. Could taste some hints of orange zest and even caramel. Even though this beer has quite high alcohol content (7% ABV), it didn't distort any of the other flavours.

Appearance

Cuvee des Trolls is an unfiltered beer, which makes the beer look really cloudy. Usually this beer is also served in a translucent glass, but I didn't have that one on hand. I've just used a standard Duvel tulip glass.

Conclusion

This is definitely a beer that I would happily drink again, it's really refreshing when it's hot outside. It wasn't too sweet for my taste and different enough to your standard beer. @slobberchops, you might want to try this one if you can find it. Went down really easy ;-)

With 7% ABV you can easily drink a couple of them without getting too tipsy, at least in my case. Lack of bitterness might not appeal to everyone, but I'm sure some people can appreciate this as well.

I only drink one kind of beer! It has 8% of alcohol in it. ^^ I love the colorful can where the beer is put. Hmmmm.. Sweet? I'd love to give that a try. ^^ Cheers!

Great you're talking about Belgian beers! We know how to do it ;) Seen your post about the Gueuze, well done, it's our champagne ;)

You can get it mail order but nowehere else it seems. Its out of stock and around £2 a bottle, no cans here!

I tried a weisse Belgian beer last night on a night out. I'll mention it in my next article. I wonder if you have heard of it?

Too bad, guess it's a little bit too unknown to find it at the local supermarket?

Probably Hoegaarden or something else? The only other ones I know of are Vedett white or Brugse Witte (White from Bruges)

Theres no shortage of them, I just pick one up at random every now and again. The ones you mention may well be on the shelves.

While I am not much of a drinker, I can remember years ago when on a hot and humid summer day being able to down a few COLDER than cold beer... so refreshing!

I agree with you, I prefer it in a bottle myself. I am a fan of the long necks. Based on the description you gave this looks like it might be similar to a Bell's Oberon. They usually serve it with an orange slice when you can find it on tap. Thanks for sharing. Glad you enjoyed it. It's never fun when you find one you don't enjoy. Because it is horrible, but you feel obligated at the same time!

Good Job...
