In the year 1934 the new Westmalle brewery was opened and at this day a new and ground-breaking beer was born. The new beer was widely acknowledged as the first tripel beer in the world.

The name tripel makes reference to the fact that ingredients are used in quantities larger than usual. It is a heavy, predominantly blond beer with a strong taste of malts and/or hop bitters. You can tell the Westmalle Tripel from the Dubbel by its label, which looks antique and yellowed, and the bottle cap in the same colour stamped with the brewery’s initials.

The Beer

A strong, dry and spicy trappist ale.

The product of a secondary fermentation lasting 5 weeks. This is a complex ale with a fruity aroma and a nice nuanced hop scent. It is soft and creamy in the mouth, with a bitter touch carried by the fruity aroma. An exceptional ale, with a great deal of finesse and elegance, and with a splendid long after taste.
