Beery times in December - Day 4

It seems my family loves that Beer Dude a lot as the created the a DIY Xmas beer calendar for me.

I'm so happy about this that I had to post every day a beer. Even better, I have to taste it before...

This means, each day of the cold and dark December @detlev get some light and warm feelings by searching for another beer from that big green box aka #BeerCalendar.

As you see, the green box and the cats have an agreement. Seems we will loose all color way before xmas.

That sounds like a typical old Belgian village. Now I have to research a bit, as I never had this beer before.

A real trappist beer

WOW - on of the twelve!
THis is a real trappist beer made be monks.

The Orval Brewery’s activities are governed by the wishes of the monastic community. Part of the revenue generated by the sale of its products goes to charity.

This ethical dimension is one of the three criteria of the “Authentic Trappist Product” designation. To qualify for this designation, a product must be manufactured in a Trappist abbey, the monastic community must be directly involved in the management of the activities and the revenue must be essentially used for charity.

Trappist products are recongnisable from these initials.
There are only twelf Trappist breweries in the world. www.trappist.be

At the Ovral website

There is a nice story behind the beer from Orval and I found this on their website

Located within the confines of the Abbey, the Orval Brewery was created in 1931 to finance the enormous reconstruction works of Orval. It has hired lay workers from the outset, including the master brewer, Pappenheimer, who invented the recipe.

The Taste

What does the Expert say:

The Orval Trappist brewery makes only one beer for the general public. It has an intensely aromatic and dry character. Between the first and second fermentations there is also an additional dry-hopping process. Through this the beer acquires its pronounced hoppy aroma and extra dry taste.

Bottled at 5.2% abv - can go up as high as 7.2%

How does this new DIY calendar work?

It is so simple and cool as well.

My family know what I love and the found a big old box wich they painted in green color. Then they filled with some smooth stuff.

I think they „borrowed“ it from the rabbits from our friends house. As you see, even the cats helped with some work. They did the nice “patina“ to the green color.
