Picked these up last night on the way home. Wicked Weed is a North Carolina beer and crossed the Appalachians just this year (2018, maybe December 2017) pretty much the same time I found it in Asheville around New Years Day.

Speaking of crossing the Appalachians, how about a shout out to local beer here in Tennessee and in particular the Nashville Area. First of all, let’s pay homage to the granddaddy brewery here, our Sam Adams. It is called Yazoo and pretty much was the Nashville made beer for years. There Dos Perros to me is a standout more English style Ale.

Bearded Iris shock up on me, They make a really good beer and tend to hang their hat on unfiltered IPA and Double IPA beers. They churn out new types quite often and I believe hand out in the Germantown area of Nashville. In listening to the bartenders at the places I hang out with the best beer selection, they are increasingly featuring this brand as the best of the locals. And I am on board. Really good stuff. Find Homestyle if you can, but try anything you find.

They may become the Calfkiller of the Nashville area. Calfkiller has a marketing/disporgnanization distribution system that seems like, if we get you beer you get beer. So when I find it anywhere I grab it or order it. Over time, Calfkiller has created a buzz and that must buy feel that I think any brewery would want. (Something like Indiana’s 3 Floyds or Russian River in California.

But if you want to drink local in Nashville, you have a lot of great options, from Blackstone, to Black Abbey, to Jackalope, to Fat Bottom, to New Heights, to Turtle Anarchy and more, Nashville is quietly producing a lot of great beer options.
