No-Li Falls Porter: An Amateurish Beer ReviewsteemCreated with Sketch.

From the No-Li Brewhouse in Spokane Washington, I present Falls Porter. Is it any good? Let's take a look!

The smell is strongly of hops with the astringent pine note one expects from Northwest IPAs.

The malt has a proper rich chocolatey taste, and the beer doesn't feel watery, so top marks there.

At 6.1% ABV, it's about what one expects from a microbrew porter-style ale.

The kicker, though, is the 39 IBUs. According to Wikipedia, porters of the past had more hops than modern stouts and porters, but this has more of an IPA bite as indicated by the smell. I don't think this particular strain of hops really works with the malt profile. It's dissonant.

Overall, I prefer the Deschutes Black Butte Porter I reviewed last month. Your mileage may vary, of course.
