The Lord of the Beer #68 Achel Blond

in beer •  7 years ago  (edited)

Hello Steemians !

This one is a Trappist, it has been a long time since I did one ! I think, without any doubts, that this is the least known of all the Belgian Trappist. I only know it exists because of a group work that I did in English class two years ago. We had a free theme, so my friends and I chose beer and I had the part about the Trappist and the Abbey beer, basically define what it is and how you get the label. It was at that moment that I discover the beer, I was and I’m still wondering what taste it has.

Description

This is a blond beer with 8%, it’s brewed in the Notre-Dame de Saint-Benoît Abbey, at Achel in the north of the country. The Abbey exists since 1846 and the brewery is born 4 years later. Back in that period, they only brewed 2 draft beers and a blond. However, in 2003, they started to make Trappist beer, 6 of them. There is still 2 draft beers, brown and blond plus two special beers also one brown and one blond. Finally, they made two “extra” which is beers they brew from time to time, hard to find so.

Tasting

Time to taste ! There is a malt odor which reminds me of another beer but I couldn’t say which. Concerning the taste, it’s brief but very malty. Moreover, this beer isn’t sweet but a little acid or sour I would say. Finally, there is also a malty and slightly bitter after taste.

Rating

I rate this beer 11/20, I didn’t really like it. I think it lacks something, a little particularity which would allow me to fall in love for it. Still, this Trappist was interesting to taste and I recommend it but I’ curious about the brown which I think will be better.

This looks like a blog worth following. I think I may have had that beer years ago, but it wasn't particularly memorable, yet by no means unpleasant either.
