本日紹介するのは日本のビールである「アサヒ グランマイルド」です。

この商品は日本のビール業界の大きな変革に対応した商品です。

ビールに使用できる副原料の多様化
その変化は2018年4月に起こりました。日本のビールの定義に変更があったのです。ビールは水、麦、ホップで作られますが、副原料を加えることも多いです。その副原料の幅がビールの定義の変化により、大きく広がりました。これまではコメやコーンスターチなどのみが副原料として扱われておりました。それ以外を使うと「発泡酒」と表記されてしまうために、ビールの多様化の妨げになっていました。

しかし、この4月の酒税法の改正により、副原料に果皮やハーブなどが使用できるようになりました。そのため、ビールメーカー各社は新たな挑戦を行なっているのです。

アサヒビールの挑戦
アサヒビールはこの潮流の中、アサヒ グランマイルドという商品を発売しました。これの新しい点はレモングラスが副原料として配合されています。

レモングラスとはハーブの一種で主にタイ料理のトムヤムクンやティーとして使用されます。これがビールに配合されたことにより、まろやかな味わいが生まれています。

さらにはアルコール度数は7パーセントとやや高め。最近の高アルコール需要を汲み取っているのでしょうか。

古くからスーパードライしか飲まない！と言った人には少しキレや苦味が物足りなく感じられるかもしれません。

しかし若者のビール離れが顕著となる今日、ビール新時代の幕開けとなる一杯を試してみるのもよいかもしれません。
