I poured this after a moderate day at work. The Peak Organic bottle still had a few sips and I pulled that out to have a comparison.
The Brooklyn Brewery Defender IPA tastes a lot like amber ale with hops as an after thought. Not that I have anything against amber ale, but that was the first beer I was into when I first started my beer story.
There are hints of a slightly dark caramel and literally a bottle rocket with hops strapped on explodes in the after taste.
I went back and sampled the Peak Organic, which is like buying an island of mature hops vines and driving a golf cart on said island with your arm hooked to a hops IV as the hopsy breeze blows through your man bun.
This defender feels like it could have been a much more robust beer. I remember the story of the owner, Steve Hindy, and how he bootstrapped his brewery and didn't pay himself to pay his employees the first few rocky months. I love the story because (I think) the brewery seems to be doing well. I will keep a look out for more hoppy beers from this establishment.
