Beer review Rochefort 8

in beer •  2 years ago

Rochefort 8 is a classic Belgian Trappist beer from the famous Abbey of Rochefort, located in the Belgian province of Namur. The first beer was brewed here in 1899, and has been enjoyed by generations of beer lovers ever since.

The Abbey of Rochefort is a former Premonstratensian monastery. Founded in 1232, the abbey was an important spiritual and cultural center for centuries, influencing the development of many aspects of Belgian and European culture. The abbey was destroyed somewhere in 1789. The current Abbey of Rochefort was only refounded in 1887.

This beer has an impressive 9.2% ABV, making it a strong and flavourful beer. It has a dark mahogany colour, with a full body and a frothy, off-white head. The aroma is complex, with notes of dark malts, raisins, figs, dates, and subtle hints of spice.

The flavour is also complex and robust, with notes of dark malts, raisins, dates, and a hint of licorice. There is also a slight sweetness that balances the bitter hops. The finish is dry, with a lingering note of dark malts and a subtle bitterness.

Rochefort 8 is a delicious and complex beer that is sure to please any beer lover. Its rich flavours, high ABV, and long history make it an ideal choice for any special occasion.

Rochefort for the longest times had 3 dark beers: the 6, the 8 and the 10. Seen in the picture below, the 8 is the middle one with the green bottle cap.

Recently a triple style beer was launched, having a purple bottle cap.
