Super Bowl - Beer of the Day #7 - Budweiser

in beeroftheday •  8 years ago

So for the US Americans this day is a crazy day as they celebrate Super Bowl - the so called American Football Happening of the Year. What is this exactly? I got inspired to this new Beer post by @kus-knee actually. Some Europeans like me might never will get real access to this Sports as Football for us means playing without helmets, without sponsor / advertisement breaks every other minute but is is THE BIG BUSINESS in the US so today's Beer of the Day is an American Beer - but is it really an American Beer? Budweiser to me was always THE US American beer.

Bit of historical background from Wikipedia mainly:

Budweiser is an American-style pale lager produced by Anheuser-Busch, which is a part of multinational corporation Anheuser–Busch InBev SA/NV. Introduced in 1876 by Carl Conrad & Co. of St. Louis, Missouri, it has grown to become one of the highest selling beers in the United States, and is available in over 80 markets worldwide—though, due to a trademark dispute, does not necessarily do so under the Budweiser name. It is made with up to 30% rice in addition to hops and barley malt. Produced in various breweries around the world, Budweiser is a filtered beer available in draft and packaged forms.
Anheuser–Busch has been involved in a trademark dispute with European beer companies, in particular the Budweiser Budvar Brewery of České Budějovice, Czech Republic, over the trademark rights to the name "Budweiser". Beer has been brewed in České Budějovice (known as Budweis in German) since it was founded by King Ottokar II of Bohemia in 1245. The name Budweiser is a derivative adjective, meaning "of Budweis". In 1876, Adolphus Busch and his friend Carl Conrad, a liquor importer, developed a "Bohemian-style" lager, inspired after a trip to the region.
In the European Union, excluding the United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland, Finland and Spain, the American beer is marketed as Bud, as the Budweiser trademark name is owned solely by the Czech beer maker, Budweiser Budvar.
Anheuser-Busch has a market share in the United States of 50.9% for all beers sold. This is primarily composed of Budweiser brands. In 2008 the Belgian-Brazilian beer giant InBev bought the majority of Anheuser-Busch stocks at $70 per share in an all-cash agreement, to create the largest brewing company in the world.

On a personal note I like the taste of Budweiser. When I am in the US I enjoy it very much, this is me with a buddy of work in a baseball stadium in lovely San Diego / California.

🍻  Cheers America and enjoy Super Bowl tonight! 🍻

Thank goodness for some of the great craft beers available now in the US! My parents' families are from the St. Louis, Missouri area, where Anheuser-Busch got started. It is still a major force and sense of identity for that city!

great to know - i need to visit America soon again - if Trump lets me in :-)

Great post Uwe, not sure how I missed it! Always good to catch up upon who's who in the zoo of beer. Do you know Pilsner Urquell? Supposedly the first ever Pilsener. We used to have a beer, wine and spirits division in the UK and sold that, Grolsch, Oranjeboom, Hofmeister (early distribution), and a few others.
Urquell is great, as is Grolsch which has to be the most expensive packaging ever dreamed up but I guess it worked

Sure - i know all of them - Pilsener Urquell original czech were Pils comes from with German name "Urquell" - my dad used to drink that - Grolsch is brrrr - Hofmeister is cool! I am creating a new trail about Beer btw on Steemtrail

Cool, but I am an ale person by preference - not a massive lager fan unless it is a hot day . Let me know about the beer development!
