1. The rum:
Considered one of the best in the world for its taste and quality. Its elaboration process is handmade. It consists of converting the sugar cane into molasses, then into alcohol and then into rum, which is emptied into oak barrels for aging, and from there rums of different kinds are extracted. It is usually drunk on rocks (with ice), or in other preparations such as Cuba Libre or other cocktails. Venezuela is the only country in the world that has a legal standard that states that, for a rum to be considered as such, it must have a minimum of two years of barrel aging.
2. The cocuy:
It is the only native liquor in the country. It was declared cultural heritage of the state of Lara in 2005. This drink, still unknown to some Venezuelans, was first prepared by the natives. For its elaboration, the wild plant Agave cocui is used, which grows mainly in the states of Lara and Falcón. It has a strong taste with a sweet touch, and has a peculiar aroma. It is usual to drink it dry, but it is still used to prepare some mixtures or cocktails.
3. The beers:
This drink is one of the most popular among Venezuelans. Commonly called "beer". Local or foreign brands are available on the market. In addition, in recent years a very important market for artisanal beers has emerged.
It has a slightly bitter taste. It is obtained from barley or similar cereals, which are fermented and mixed with water and flavourings. There are different ways to process this drink to give it different flavors and smells. It has an average of 5 degrees of alcohol. It's sparkling. Thanks to its optimal conservation it is produced and transported at any time of the year.
