Today's musing from Madrid where #BeerSaturday fuses with a meaty Argentinian!
Last night I fed my face with all the delights of an Argentinian meat feast. What better than to integrate this outing into my Beer Saturday entrance for this week!
I actually drank wine at the meal (where's Wine Wednesday??) but managed to sneak in a beer or 2 before. In some ways I wish I hadn't, it fills you up a bit so eats in to the precious space required for an all-you-can-eat extravaganza.
Bier Samstag? 🇩🇪
The beer is called Krombacher and is a tasty little German Pils number.
It's from my local supermarket and is cheap and cheerful (I think €0.60 for a single bottle) and is one of my favourites for a 'house beer', although I keep forgetting. Generally I get Mahou (discussed in my Faces of Mahou BeerSat entry a while back) which is the kind of standard middle ground around these parts. This 'Krombie' hits the spot and is a good all-rounder.
Apparently it is the top premium beer in Germany but we'll have to see about that! Weighing in at 4.8%, it's the perfect strength to have enough 'juice' as well as being able to have a few of and integrate into a wider night (I said wider, not wilder cheeky. Ok, maybe that too). As for the taste… I have no idea, I'll have to have another one. It's very beery I'll give it that.
If you want to check out some more info on this beverage, then you can see Wikipedia and Krombacher.com.
Before dinner, coincidentally, we went for a drink at a German bar nearby. And what was on tap that I went for? You guessed it, none other that my previous house beer amigo, Mr Krombacher. Didn't get a picture of that though because I was busy drinking it and, you know, actually talking to the people around me! 😉
What about the food, fatty?!
So, that was the pre-game, what of the munch? For a start, I don't think all-you-can-eat buffets are really the way to go for a number of reasons. Not least, my stomach is still full and I'm sweating out a cow. Bit weird.
I always feel a bit like Homer Simpson at these places and Homer himself has given handy tips on how to play the all-you-can-eat game. In fact, I believe there was a court appearance for Mr Simpson over the matter:
I'm sure there was another one where he's telling the others about the strategy, not to fill up on bread etc. But anyway…
The restaurant is called The Knife and is in the Arturo Soria area of Madrid (as well as a couple of other locations I believe) and is an 'authentic Argentine grill'. Here's a little snapshot of what we're dealing with:

Of course, they have the BBQ going and you go up to get what you want which they dish out, then you can twaddle on over to the salad bar section and get all that you want there (or you could go there first, but think back to Homer's strategy - know your game plan and your culinary priorities).
The cost is €18.90 per person and includes either a bottle of wine (yes, whole bottle), 2 beers, or 2 tinto de veranos (summer red wine)… and presumably soft drinks are an option too. I wouldn't know much about that, as I went for the wine. Best bang for your buck right there. That's not to say I drank the whole bottle. I'll let you figure that one out 😛.
It's legit!
The food was good and the place had a nice vibe. A couple of people I was there with go there regularly and love it, although most of us were there for the first time. It's a good place for groups and fairly informal as people are getting up and down to stock up their plate.
I went to a Brazilian restaurant ('Brasayleña') a couple of weeks back for a similar kind of thing. At that place, they actually come to the table and carve off the meat in front of you. I prefer The Knife - I like to get up and move around and I'm not relying on the service of slow waiters (although, it could be annoying if there's a queue at the grill). The food was better at The Knife, as was the service, although not much of that was required as we were sorted for drinks (those who went with the wine anyway 😉) but the staff were on hand anyway and seemed pleasant.
Great evening with a few friends, a couple of characters I've met before, along with a few new faces… a mix of various nationalities.

Weirdly, today I was thinking of becoming vegetarian. That's not a commentary on the product of last night but more the way we consume meat. That can't be good for us. Not too great for the animals either but that's a whole can of worms we don't want to get into right now! What do you reckon? Maybe we could tie it in with being teetotal. Steady on pig, steady on…

So now I am confused, should I go back to Germany for the Beer, or Spain for the food. I am hungry and thirsty now that I read this. Yummy..:)))

Sounds and looks like a great evening. The German beer looks like a nice session beer. I've had the flu all week, and have eaten almost nothing. The grill covered in meat was almost too much...I think I salivated all over my computer. It needed a good cleaning anyway. Thanks...:-))

The place looks great and I love your post!! (I believe that meat is extra healthy for you, where does meat come from? From an animal that ate grass, thus meat is full of veggies!! LOL)

Thanks! And I like your theory… it must mean that I was super healthy the other night. Plus, wine's made from grapes so got some good fruit intake too! ;)

A good tip to start is to first read the post that you're commenting on. Next up would be a thoughtful comment based on your thoughts of what you just read (but only if it adds something to the conversation). Start with that along with posting some of the best quality content you can on a consistent basis and people will be inclined to visit your blog, upvote you etc.
