Dry January?!? No Chance, I’m polishing off all the Christmas Beer – Part 3

in beersaturday •  7 years ago

This is the third part of my ‘Wet January’ posts where I resolutely refuse to make any New Year resolutions such as abstaining from alcohol. While I admire people with the willpower to do this, I know that I would fail and so prefer to go the other direction, and drink and post about beer more than normal!!

At the moment I am working my way through this selection of beers that my wife bought me for Christmas

I started with two lagers – a Moosehead from Canada and a Beerlao from Laos

Second up was two IPAs – a Coopers from Australia and a Brewdog from the UK

Third up today is two more IPAs – one from Kitchen Brew in Switzerland, and one from Crew Republic in Germany

Kitchen Brew Session IPA

This is a beer that likely nobody will ever have heard of, as it comes from a small brewery in Switzerland. I live in Switzerland, which is presumably how this beer made its way into the selection box

The website is mostly in German, but worth a look. They produce a range of different ales which you can buy directly from the brewery, or even go there and drink them on site

For some reason I didn’t take a picture of this one – here’s one from the website

I have the Session IPA, which seems like it is designed for exactly as it is named – a drinking session. At 4.5% it’s the lightest in their range, and it certainly is quite light in terms of both look and taste. But it tastes great - light, fruity and refreshing, it really reminded me of some of the American IPAs that are springing up everywhere

I am really pleased that this beer was included in the selection. Switzerland is an expensive country and buying foreign imported IPA is an expensive hobby. Now that I have discovered this really good Swiss IPA I will be looking out for it everywhere

Crew Republic Drunken Sailor IPA

Crew Republic was founded by two friends in Munich in 2011 with a goal:

“to make creative and exciting beers that would revolutionize the world of German beer!”

From their website it seems that they brew primarily IPA and they had a bit of a tough time getting started – perhaps not surprising in a city famous for its Helles, but in April 2012 they launched their first beer - the CREW Republic “Drunken Sailor – IPA”

Since then it seems like things have gone from strength to strength, they have had their own brewery since 2015, and their website now boasts five ales as well as a summer beer, a stout and a barley wine

I have the original Drunken Sailor IPA which, like all the rest, comes with some very lively and distinctive branding – if I saw a bottle of this in a pub or bar I would instinctively go for it, it just looks cool. And it tastes great too. Light, fruity, packed full of flavour, this is a really nice beer

If all their range is as good as this then I am not surprised that they are doing well!

Recap

Yet two more good beers from two fairly new breweries – this Christmas present is turning out to be awesome!!

The Kitchen Brew – from a new Swiss brewery – light, easy to drink but with plenty of flavour

The Crew Republic – actually very similar – light and fruity and also full of flavour

I would be happy drinking my way through a ton of either of these beers, even in the middle of a hot summer

Right now I am feeling pretty jealous of the guys that set up both these two breweries – they must be living the dream!

I can’t choose between these two – I will be seeking them both out again!!

Next up is two Belgian white beers

Thanks for reading!

mmmmmm. Love it! I should drink more. Unfortunately I'm so health anxious that I drink way to little. Ironically drinking removes anxiety..so perhaps I should drink some more? :)

Yes you should..

Fully agreed - sometimes alcohol really is the answer!

Hey @holbein81! I am learning so much from you about beer. Just so you know, one of my clients - and buddy - (whose YouTube videos I transcribe/caption) is Mei Leaf teahouse : https://meileaf.com write about tea often here on Steemit, and beer and tea appreciation has many commonalities. I especially like how you comment on the branding of these beers, since I am a marketing-focused guy. Interestingly, Don at Mei Leaf has a FINE knack for branding and packaging design. Keep making these informative posts, as I am aspiring tea master, but am also interested in getting deeper into beer appreciation, as the same tasting and analysis skills apply to both...

Hey, thanks for the good comment!!
For sure I will keep drinking beer and making a post or two about it. I may even branch out into wine ;-)
I think beer branding is really important - I often buy bottles purely because of their look or name

Cheers

Kitchen Brew and Drunken Sailor.. I gotta say neither of those names inspire confidence..

Yeah, that's true, I didn't think of that - but they were both really good - I was pleasantly surprised and will be getting some more of them!

Cheers

Thirsty now.

Then you should have a beer!

Haha, what I like is you reversing and modifying your resolution as per your desires, which is the best. I dont think I can ever make a resolution of giving up on my drinks specially the wine.

I just never make the resolution in the first place - then I can't fail.

Easy... ;-)

The taste of sweet fruit sir, I really like the fruit.

There was some nice fruit here!

Cheers

Nice!!! Cheers!! Yea way too much good stuff for me too to give up. Haha, wanted to though.

Yes you should...

Never give up!!

I love beer. I want to drink it. Can you help me

beer is Russian passion, not vodka like the whole world thinks)
beer is drunk in huge amounts on holidays and everyday life! guys, girls, adults, teenagers..beer has won the world)

Hi! I bought 50000 point steemfollower I sent you 3.17. I got only 45000 point. You know why?

I think there is probably a commission - that would be 10%...
I would check the website or ask on discord

Ok thanks
