Being Real #1 : Weird Habits (A New Sort-Of-Contest To Dive Into Togetherness, Acceptance And Authenticity)

in beingreal •  7 years ago

It is when we recognise that we have similarities with someone else, that’s when we find union.

An invisible bond is somehow created because you and I have something similar to talk about, think about and/or to just feel through.

Finding connection within ourselves and with others is (in my opinion) the basis of humanity.

And in an effort to bring togetherness between Steemians, I came up with this sort-of-contest called Being Real.

Being Real is where we take off our shame, leave the masks in the cupboard and just show who we are.

It is a space where I hope it is safe enough for you to show parts of yourself without judgment.

A space holding ‘contest’ where you can speak/write up about the things that make you YOU, and also deeply see that EVERYONE has these things in a myriad of ways.

It is about diving deep into full acceptance of who we are as people and removing the walls of shame we hold up.

Each post will look at a different aspect of life.

This obviously only works when more people comment what the topic of the post is!

The idea is to comment one or more things that relate to the topic.

And to support your fellow Steemians by upvoting their comments.

It takes a lot of courage to pipe up and be vocal about the things that usually no one talks about!

So without further ado, I will start!

Being Real #1 : Weird Habits

What weird habit do you have?

One weird habit that I have (oh gosh, I cannot believe I am writing this) is I am completely obsessed with hard hair that grows out of a mole I have on my face. If I can feel that there is a hair there, I CANNOT stop obsessing about it until I have plucked it out. I have even really gone out of my way to get to a shop to buy tweezers because all I could think of was that damn hair!

Okay. That was difficult to write but this is the whole point of Being Real.

So go on.

Answer.

What weird habit(s) do you have?

BIG love,

Ashley

hey what a contest @ashleykalila I am a lot frank in telling my weird habit to my friends you know what? I start out dancing on any music hahaha and sometimes people give me an angry look when I start dancing at wrong place on a song not to be danced with...

Hehe.
I can relate to this too.

I dance EVERYWHERE!

In the supermarket, in a restaurant, on the bus.... doesn't matter where I am! :)

Well done for being so intune with your dancing side!

Superb then we can be friends ?

I don’t think it’s very strange but I make noises when I’m full of energy and in my room and busy with something. I have no idea most of the time, but friends have recorded a few times.i want to put out an album of it someday. I impersonate all kinds of nonexistent cartoon characters and animal sounds and sing the strangest songs that are broadcast from another dimension.

Hahahaha
Please film yourself and send it to me!

I want to see and hear it!

Sounds very interesting to say the least :)

OK this doesn't happen that often any more probably because I am older and don't really care as much but when I was younger and got really nervous, I would believe that I had - this is kind of gross - a booger hanging out of my nose. I would start to pinch my nose or cover it up with my hand because I just knew there was something hanging out. This would happen to me in a high pressure situation, like a job interview or just talking to someone new. Really annoying how the mind can plays tricks on you.

Oh wow.
Interesting.
How did you get this to stop?

I got older and very much less self conscious. I also understood that if it was true someone would be kind enough to say something.

Ok, I'll put myself out there and post two weird habits.

I HAVE to have one of those old school blankets with the silk on top. But I flip it upside down, so the silky part is by my feet. And I fall asleep by rubbing my foot back and forth against it.

When I'm in a stressful situation, or I have to really turn on some mental thinking power, I twirl my hair. I hate this one because I work in a very male-dominated industry and work hard to fight the dumb female image. I kill it at work for the most part, but then I'm in a super important meeting and need to have valuable input. But can't think straight without sitting there twirling my hair like a bimbo LOL.

Haha
AAh your first weird habit is very adorable.
There is something very soothing about it.
And second one, yeaaaa i get ya.
I do that A LOT too.
Do you tell people that that is your way to get your thinking cap on? :)

Ok this one goes public..
My weird habit is whenever I talk to a person that has something wrong in their face like for example if he has big mole on his face, I stare at it as long as the conversation continue. If someone has one black teeth between all of his white teeth, I stare at it when I talk to that person. If he had a scratch on his face I'll stare at it too. As long as thar person has something wrong on his face, I will stare at that thing when I talk to them. Thank you.

Aah I can totally understand this one.

Do you say something to them? Or have people gotten offended by it?

lol I'm afraid that would offend them, but mostly they just hide it when they talk to me. Sometime I'd be honest to them and tell them that this is how I talk to people, and I'm glad they understand. But sometimes the told me to quit it. lol

hehe lol :)

oh gosh! @ashleykalila its really hard to tell someone your weird habits. Still your contest is being real so I am telling mine taking of all the shame. My weird habit is that I start out laughing if someone discusses something serious with me hehehe and after doing so i feel embarrassed all the time

First of all, well done you for being so honest.

Second ,I DO EXACTLY THE SAME!!!!!!
My boyfriend absolutely hates it which only makes me laugh even more!

:)

hahaha that means we are connected with a simple weird habit . I am happy to know it
keep laughing my dear @ashleykalila

OK... I HATE using public bathrooms. If you see me go into one you know I am just about to wet my pants... lol! It has led me to develop a weird habit. I won't put my purse on the little hanger on the door, I hang it around me neck so it does not touch anything in there!

Hehe

Well I am sure it works right? :)

Thank you for sharing!

How nice may consider. Welcome to sugar mama's

I don't get this comment at all. Haha

Could you explain yourself please?

lol that's funny, but this is a very great idea. I want to share my bad habits too. But how? how to participate?
thanks

Just post a comment :)

oh, right. I'll start soon.. thank you..
