    LOL..stoning children!! Friends of mine with kids were asked this very question when they started to walk in Torah! They did the same thing though and showed the person asking that stupid question what was really going on. So what they do, you know just find something else to "catch" them on!!!

      Realizing that this was an adult living in "his city" indicates that this is not a child. A drunkard and a gluten could not be stoned by the elders of the city, unless given the testimony of both his father and mother - a person's greatest advocates.
