Benazir Bhutto was born in Karachi to a Politically important Family on June 21, 1953 and served as Prime Minister of Pakistan from 1988 to 1990 and again from 1993 to 1996. Bhutto studied from Harvard University and the University of Oxford, where she remained President of Oxford Union also.

She returned to Pakistan after her father was ousted in a 1977 military coup and executed. But was repeatedly imprisoned by Zia-Ul-Haq and finally exiled to Britain in 1984.

On December 2, 1988 Benazir bhutto became the Prime Minister of Pakistan when she was only 25. She was the first women to lead modern Muslim nation and became the youngest Prime Minister in the world at that time. People inside and outside were keeping great expectations from her as he won the elections that were totally fair and free but later she was accused of corruption and nepotism. In her first speech after becoming Prime minister, she said, " We'll choose the path of love, we will eradicate hunger and poverty. We will provide shelter for homeless. We will provide employment for unemployed. We will educate the illiterate."

She hosted the fourth summit of SAARC held in Islamabad in December, 1988 and the results were considered a success for Benazir Bhutto. In this summit both the countries of Pakistan and India decided not to attack on each others nuclear installations. In 1990 due to the differences arose in the Government and establishment she was dismissed by Ghulam Ishaq khan, the President.

Again in 1993 elections Benazir Bhutto led Pakistan People Party to victory. Her second term oversaw privatization and to advance women's rights. Due to bribery scandal of her and her husband Asif ali zardari, she was dismissed again. The PPP lost the elections in 1997 and she went into self exiled in Dubai in 1998 leading her party mainly through proxies. She returned in 2007 to contest 2008 elections but after a political rally in Rawalpindi, she was assassinated on December 27, 2007 and al-Qaeda claimed the responsibility.

"Democracy is necessary to peace and to undermining the forces of terrorism"
(Benazir Bhutto)
