SPRINGFIELD (Heartland Newsfeed) -- A Libertarian candidate for Illinois governor spoke out in response to a press release and inquiry made by the Illinoisans for Ranked Choice Voting (ILRCV) organization, which was issued on June 29.

Grayson "Kash" Jackson, who became the party's nominee in March and was recently ballot-qualified, responded to the organization's request for a stance from the gubernatorial candidates on the issue of ranked choice voting (RCV) and proportional representation in the Land of Lincoln.

"As a believer in individual rights, I am in favor of ranked choice voting and proportional representation," Jackson started off in his response.

Jackson also mentions that RCV gives more voting control to Illinois voters, which eliminates the need for runoff elections and presents the highest voter power available making their voices heard the most, especially in state government.

Jackson adds commentary on proportional representation, which is cited as a personal liberty and freedom issue.

ILRCV and cause supporters have reached out to Republican incumbent Bruce Rauner, Democratic opponent JB Pritzker and Conservative opponent Sen. Sam McCann, but the campaigns have yet to issue a response.

In addition to Jackson's endorsement in favor of RCV, the Illinois Green Party formally endorsed RCV.

The president of ILRCV, Ben Chapman, stated that he was "encouraged by Jackson" for such a prompt and gracious response and look forward with working with the campaign to further the discussion of electoral justice in the state.

The nonpartisan group works with other electoral advocacy groups including FairVote Illinois to present Illinois voters with a better grasp of democracy and actively works with third parties and independents who are disenfranchised with the current First Past the Post (FPTP) method of voting.
