Berlin Classic Car Remise - A Hidden Temple

in berlin •  7 years ago  (edited)

Have you ever discovered a new place by accident, somewhere where you’d never imagined it to be? This happened to us some time ago, while we were on one of our weekend trips to Berlin. We were driving around the city when spotted a few great cars in the distance. We immediately thought we need to stop and have a quick look, but what we actually saw totally exceeded our expectation. We had just discovered the Classic Remise Berlin.

Classic Remise Berlin - Where Is It?

Located on Wiebestr. 36 - 37 in Charlottenburg district, this hidden gem is located only 10 minutes by car and 40 minutes on foot from Tiergarten and the Berlin Zoo.

The Classic Remise Berlin is set up in a historic tram depot which has not been used since the tram system in West Berlin was given up in the 1960s. The present owner bought the lot in 2002 and opened the classic car center a year later.

The Classic Remise Berlin mainly serves as a car and motorcycle workshop, where sellers can refurbish their vintage cars to the standards of their clients.

The workshop also offers complementary services such as car cleaning, insurance, car dealership and rental. Additionally, there is a restaurant next by, where one can grab some food while visiting the site.

This car-lovers-mecca is absolutely amazing and you’ll have a feeling of being in a museum, garage and car dealership at the same time. The workshop is laid out on two floors.

You can wander around freely through most of the facility and get an up close look at their amazing car collection.

What To See At The Classic Remise Berlin

I love this place and I’m sure you will find at least one car you’ll fall in love with.

There are so many beautiful cars that you rarely see on the streets: Mercedes Benz 300SL, Bugatti Veyron, Ferrari LaFerrari, Lamborghini Countach, Ferrari Testarossa, Horch, Facel Vega as well as iconic cars of the old times such as Citroën 2CV, Opel Kapitän.

The Classic Remise Berlin seems small at first and you may think it will only take you an hour. But sooner or later you realise that you have been there 2-3 hours already.

Personally, I’d say the Classic Remise Berlin is perfect for half a day, and with the coffee shop right next door, you can refill your energy any time.

Opening hours

What surprised me the most, was that you can spend as much time there as you want and nobody will bother at all. You’re allowed to take pictures and watch the whole restoration process from behind the glass. There are no hostesses or security guards, just the mechanics.

And the best part is – it is all for free!!! The workshop is open Monday-Saturday from 8:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M., and Sundays from 10:00 A.M to 8:00 P.M.
