well, nothing really matters buddy... beauty is always down to the individual looking at a picture/ painting etc.
... in the end it will always have fit the viewer and its taste.
However in some regards you are right: one has to provide some decent content in the front or background. Once you got some eye catcher your already half way there.

She is resting her arms on a wall and... she's a pro ballet dancer so i am sure she can stand like that at least for a few days. In regards of the foreground, i agree, once you get the eye catcher right nothing else really matters. Attention spans are extremely short nowadays.

@bescouted to me I see more in the few introduction you wrote on the photograph. Its give the picture much value. And more so the beauty of the photograph really don't lies on beautiful background but how well the image compliment the surroundings .good post bescouted

it always depend on the kind of photography - for the fashion and art every pixel is counted and should be cleaned and checked,
for street, documentary is exactly as you said - sometimes even exact focusing is not too important when the moment is interesting and tell a story
