The Goth and The Cemetary

This was a strange one for me as I don't often agree to shoot themes that I don't like. I wanted to challenge myself in this case though and very glad I did.

A very nice model named Nina got in contact asking if I'd like to do a dark gothic themed shoot in a cemetery. My instant reaction was "hell no" as I've seen this shoot style done a hundred times before and almost always looks tacky and cliched.

After I'd thought it over for a while I realized I hadn't shot anything in a long time that challenged me or pushed me out of my comfort zone. I agreed to shoot it and set out to shoot it in a way I hadn't seen before.

Instead of going the obvious route and making it as dark and gothic as possible, I tried to make it a bit more stylized and cinematic with the style of lighting.

I was really happy with how it came out and was a good reminder to push myself outside my comfort zone more often.

Ah thank you, thanks very kind.

I love your subtle backlight - nice touch!

Cheers Mikey, I thought it added a bit of dimension to it.

A backlight / rimlight makes a huge difference! It's worth the time in setting up.
