Hi, no, i think that it depends on what do You want to achieve. If You need stronger contrast You can remove first layer of diffusion. If Your model have a bad skin, maybe You going to use even more diffusion layers (maybe some white paper or other diffusion material).
I like harsh light, so if I using octabox, often i remove first layer of diffusion.
