And that's not even the whole background story of how I ended up starting my own tailoring business in 2014. This is my 5th year year month to month on the brink of bankruptcy, but I can't say I'm ready to give in by a f*cking long shot!
My name is Benjamin Saccaggi, and I grew up on a farm in rural South Africa, where I learned to sew from my mother. My entire family loves to work with our hands, and sewing came very naturally to me. Although I always loved fashion, I figured I'd get around to entering the industry 'one day when I'm big'.
When I lost my job very suddenly in 2013 I figured it was time to give this whole fashion thing a bash and see if I could make it work. After a number of pivots, some more disastrous than the rest, I arrived at the concept of 'The Green Tailor'.
Our sustainable mission in house is to ensure we produce great quality menswear from sustainable fabrics. Our side hustle is promoting other eco brands and products for online retail.
Right now I'm focusing my entire life on training a few people in the art of tailoring. I've interviewed some 50 prospective tailors so far and they've been terrible to put it mildly. So while I'm doing that growth is slow, but here's to hope ;)
