Best White Noise Machine Review

After over 60 hours of testing, we’ve determined that the Adaptive Sound Technologies - ‘LectroFan is the best white noise machine. We recommend it for its large range of sound options, high volume range, easy charging and continuous looping and interval features. So, who needs a white noise machine? If you’re a light sleeper, have a baby, or suffer from ringing in your ears (also known as tinnitus), a white noise machine may be a good option for you. White noise is a combination of all the frequencies the human ear can hear, occuring all at once. It can have the effect of canceling out ambient noise that distracts you or keeps you awake. There are two types of white noise machines, analog and digital. Analog machines use fan-produced sounds, which can be quieter and more natural sounding. On the other hand, digital machines can create an infinite amount of sounds and a greater range of volumes. Here’s our list of the top best white noise machines: Our best overall white noise machine: Adaptive Sound Technologies - ‘LectroFan Our best portable white noise machine: Marpac - Rohm And finally, our best analog white noise machine: Sleep Easy - Sound Conditioner So, how did we test? It's important to note that we only tested features that are relevant to white noise even though our top digital picks offer several sound options. We got to work pressing buttons on all the machines, running through the gamut of noise options on each contender from zero to maximum volume. Then, we considered the portability and battery life of each machine. Before going over our top picks, you can check out links in the description below for more details on each white noise machine. There’s also a link there to the full review on our blog post. The Adaptive Sound Technologies was the clear winner in our tests. It was also the only one to ace our sound masking tests. Because this machine is exclusive in offering ten fan sounds and another ten white noise sounds, it’s probably the best bet for finding a sound that works for you. The 'LectroFan also got rave reviews from our overnight testers, partially because it lacked a display light to keep them up at night. They also liked the machine’s rocker buttons that are easy to work with in the dark. Design wise, it’s a slam dunk. It has a 5-foot cable and can be charged via USB or included A/C adaptor, and its low-profile look means it’s not an eyesore on your nightstand. If we had to pick something we didn’t love about this machine we’d have to say it’s the higher price point. At about $45, it is more costly than most of the other finalists. But, we do think it's worth the splurge. If you’re always on the go or want a really small machine you may want to consider the Marpac - Rohm. Though this machine only has two white noise settings, it’s perfectly portable and powered by batteries that last up to 12 hours. It’s the smallest machine we tested, but it still gets plenty loud enough to mask noise efficiently, covering dog barking, conversation, and city noise in our tests. It conveniently charges with an included micro USB. Plus, it comes with a lanyard. Our primary complaint with the Rohm? It comes with a micro USB cable, but no USB plug adaptor. We weren’t overly impressed with any of the analog white noise machines that we tested. In fact, we found that most of them were not loud enough to suit our overnight sleeping needs. However, of the analog machines, we found the Sleep Easy to be the best. Unlike the other ones we tested, it didn’t have a whining or motor sound. It costs less than all of the other models too, which means it’s great if you’ll only be using it once in a while. All of that being said, it only gets as loud as the typical conversational volume, meaning its best for a very quiet room or for someone with tinnitus. Like the video? Have any questions?
