Dear Liv,
There is simply nothing like the candor and raw honesty of your letters. I adore it, and can't believe the growth that comes from your thought processes when you write things down, there is always such a progression.
I do the same thing on social media; it's sad, but it's a modern method of social 'approval' among our peers, I think . We are not alone, but it is degrading and detrimental. I deleted the FB app from my phone so I am not tempted to go on and scroll, or constantly post. That way, when I want to go on, it's intentional, with a purpose, in and out. I don't get the constant updates. I do do it on Instagram still, but I feel its a more positive vibe there and my posts are very limited and again, very intentional, and rarely do I post about me or my personal life. It's more inspirational, I think/hope, that way when I get likes/comments, it's less about people validating me, and more about inspiring others. Does that make sense? I keep the more personal things for people who know me, well, quite personally. It's not solely an intentional thing to avoid sharing personal things for gratification; it's just my personality to be a bit more private.
How kind of you to invite Alfred over, and how rude to reply to you in that way when you welcomed him into your home. I despise Trump as much as the next gal (or perhaps more), but I can see why he thinks it's not Trump's fault. And it probably isn't on the White House at all either. But I 1000% agree that Trump doesn't care about us. I think he is a psychopath without the capacity for empathy- something a leader most certainly should have. Instead, he goes out of his way to disrespect- often in their time of need or desperation- nearly every walk of life that exists. From immigrants to veterans and everyone in between. Even if he couldn't offer a solution or explanation, he could have at least offered sympathy for the tremendous emotional panic that Hawaiian citizens went through that weekend.
Yoga was lovely. Bruce taught an Ashtanga-style practice that was a refreshing change of pace from Adam's usual. Afterwards, Mike and I went into the sauna with one of the other guys and chatted a bit. We've been trying to learn new chants and mantras, and even practicing recitations of the Sanskrit alphabet (just the pronunciation - we haven't gotten to deciphering the written word yet!).
On the other end of my spectrum of life, we went to see another LZ cover band Friday night with our neighbor and Mike's BFF Kerri. So we let loose a bit, and then got crazy, Kerri kept buying drinks. We were shit faced and it was a shit show! At the end of the show, I wanted to do Karaoke, but no bars have it on the weekends. Its a weeknight draw, you know? But Kerri insisted. So we asked the bartenders if they knew of any bars that MIGHT have it. They said McDounaugh's. So we ubered. It ended up being a gay bar with no karaoke. Ha.
Anyway, the night ended back at Johnny Macs until closing. I threw up the second we got home. We learned a lot.
Anyway, love you lots. Talk soon!
-Joan
