An engagement ring can either be bought after she has agreed to marry the man, or as a surprise and put on her finger as soon as she says yes. I think the second is more romantic and meaningful, but there seems to be many women these days who aren't satisfied and want a huge diamond on their finger. I'd rather have a good husband than an expensive ring.
Wedding rings are different because you need to buy a ring that suits the engagement ring. They both have to be the same type of gold…you can't have an 18k gold engagement ring and 9 k gold wedding ring. Also the band width needs to suit the style. There is a trend for 9k gold rings these days, because they are cheaper and more durablè. Durability is especially important for the man's ring, as he may do manual type of work.
