The CONMEBOL Libertadores, known as the Copa Libertadores de América is the Champions League of South American football, and today we take a look at matchday two, Independiente (ARG) versus Millonarios (COL).
Independiente started off their campaign with a 1-0 loss to Venezuelan outfit Deportivo Lara, who lost yesterday to Corinthians in their first away game of the campaign. Los Diablos Rojos (the Red Devils) warmed up or this match with a 2-1 win over Argentinos Juniors, and before that a 40 thrashing of San Martin domestically.
Colombian side Millonarios opened their Libertadores campaign at home, and held corinthians to a point with a 0-0 draw in group G, and nowface a tough ask away to seven time Copa Libertadores winners Independiente.
Independiente have a typically strong Argentine defence, conceding domestically at barely a goal every two games, while still being able to score at a touch over a goal a game. For Millonarios, the 15 time Colombian League winners may find it difficult to find the back of the net, and would probably be more than happy with a point tonight, but do boast a win and two draws recently over serious Libertadore contenders Nacional, from Medellin, who won easily yesterday against Delfin.
The Prediction
While I expect Independiente to win this, Millonarios have been in solid form of late, with the likes of Duque, Renteria, De Los Santos and Giraldo all scoring of late. Millionarios will find the back of the net at some stage. Take both teams to score at odds of $2.35.
