Blue Ivy looks a lot (if not completely) like Jay-Z, that’s obvious. That aside… that’s not inherently the basis of what I’m going to be covering here in this video. Blue Ivy is Jay-Z and Beyoncé’s daughter. But, let’s be realistic here… if Jay-Z didn’t have this lovely little girl with Beyoncé and he impregnated some other woman who wasn’t even remotely as renowned and accomplished as Beyoncé, people wouldn’t be this subjective about other people’s critiques of Blue. I’ll let that sink in for a moment. Considering the fan-base that Beyoncé has, it was obvious that if people viewed anything Blue Ivy does objectively and realistically, they would be called out on it. An influx would rain down on these people without hesitation. To reiterate, she wouldn’t be receiving the same protection if this were just Jay-Z’s daughter and some other woman’s. I can say that with the utmost confidence.
Suppose that, due to her parents being unequivocally accomplished and known for their musical efforts, that she wants to pursue a career in the entertainment industry; more specifically – in music. Based off the fact of who she is and who her parents are, people will more than likely be pretentious in order to not only save face but to make sure she isn’t hurt by their personal critiques. And as an artist, you need people in your corner who’ll be objective enough to tell you that something needs perfection so you can build yourself and hone your craft to the point where it’s suitable for the public. People lying to her (especially on a consistent basis) wouldn’t do anything but stagnate her growth. This is why I encourage people to tell their children if something isn’t good enough instead of misleading them just to salvage their egos. Not to say that B & J aren’t doing that already; because they probably are. But other people who are around her probably don’t. Beyoncé’s father probably encouraged her to work on her steps and her vocal projections and that could very much be the reason (or one of them) we see such a groundbreaking artist before us. Understanding your imperfections early is important, sheltering children from becoming acquainted with their imperfections is understandable but limiting to their drive as artists, entertainers of sorts, and so forth. You think Beyoncé would’ve been the star she is today if all she had was yes-men in her corner? Probably not.
So people view Jay-Z as ugly and they see that his child bears a very strong resemblance to him, vaguely resembling Beyoncé. Those same people who probably think Kanye’s pretty odd-looking see a very strong resemblance in North West (Kanye’s daughter) but think she’s adorable while viewing Jay-Z’s daughter as atrocious or something with an even worse connotation. I’m probably going to be one of the very few people to say this; but I don’t think Jay-Z’s inherently ugly. I think Mr. Carter just has ugly moments like the rest of us. Same goes for Blue Ivy. She looks like the youngest version of Jay-Z; before he rose to fame. I’ve made ugly faces, you have, Jay-Z most certainly has, Beyoncé has. Some of the most “attractive” people have. Those are just off-color expressions. Point is – Blue Ivy is a pretty adorable child. There’s no default or absolute ugliness to her, in my personal opinion. Even if there was (which there clearly isn’t), it’d probably be best not to express that due to the subjectivity of most of the general public. It’s one thing that she’s the daughter of Beyoncé (refer to what I said earlier; and yes I know Mr. Carter is her father) but it’s another thing that she’s a child. People don’t think it’s necessary to critique the looks of children for some reason and there’s not much you can do about that but shut the fuck up and keep your possibly objective opinions contained.
I want to talk about Beyoncé for a moment. I think her fan-base gives her too much credit. While I view her as a very talented and pioneering artist of sorts, people seem to act if she can do no wrong and she’s flawless in everything she does. Musically, I’ve heard much better artists than her. Nonetheless, that doesn’t take away from her talent at all. She still deserves her position as one of the leading artists of this generation because she’s worked hard to be where the fuck she is. There’s no disputing that whatsoever; she earned it. However, I find it a bit disappointing how there’s a lack of a sense of neutrality in so many of her fans; so much that it’s at a point where they can’t identify or just deliberately refuse to identify songs that were lackluster or disappointing in terms of production (be it the structuring of the instrumental or the cadence, delivery, or projection in her vocals). I feel like too many people gloss over her mistakes because they have such an apparent love for her as an artist and it taints their judgement, making their opinions less and less credible in discourse. As a fan you should be able to identify things objectively but I feel like that’s lost in her fanbase a lot. So, to put this in a nutshell, she’s overrated because her fans put her so high on a pedestal as if she’s the sheer personification of what every artist should strive to be; at least those who wish be at her level or those who pursue similar careers or genres as hers. She has her faults just the same as the greats do. Plenty of people believe she’s overrated; the thing is is that no one is really upfront about it publicly; especially socialites. I don’t think there’s too many people you can think of off the top of your head that have been vocal about it. What most objective fans (or at least casual listeners) of B do is address the hyperfocus that people put on her.
To conclude my thoughts, I think Solange is better than Beyoncé musically; right now, at least. Gee… what a ‘buzzkill,’ a-ha-ha. The beyhive should be here any minute. Gotta go.
