We sometimes have that happen because we are kind of like a geographically unconstrained meetup group that lets anyone join.
If people RSVP though and show a pattern of abusive behavior with respect to guest speaker attendance, I will ask the attendees to consider flagging the RSVP, which would hurt reputation of the users involved and result in lower chances of them ever getting on again. In the case of peerplays this is obviously not the case because they are nearly always there. Something just came up for them and it might have been a good thing it did. The hangout as it stood was longer than the 2 hours we usually set aside...and that was with an extra 25-30 minutes we got from them NOT showing :P

We try to do it in a more grassroots way. Very important for people to recognize the value of the projects we cover because we cover what the community decides for us to cover. Those projects with strong communities/followings who are willing to upvote their RSVPs will be better off for it.

I suspect it will be more based on others having steemit front ends for specific areas of content. For instance, right now steemits front end is opensource. So you could start your own website and cover top projects in a space where you are an expert by filtering that kind of content and showing it to users. On that site you could earn from advertising. But whethwr or not steem users will directly benefit is ulikely to me if we are talking about ONLY monetary benefits. Lets remember there are many differebt kibds of benefits and monetary ones are a small piece.

Great cast and enjoyed Jeff's questions - he knows his stuff. I addressed a few of the three weaknesses you proposed on bitcoin and I think Steem has an interesting way of answering these weaknesses (if a person believed they are weaknesses).

are you speaking to Jeff on this? Or me (who was moderating)? If you are talking about me, I am wondering what weaknesses you think I was talking about. I personally like bitcoin, but believe that there are many amazing ways to bring crypto to the world and way too often Bitcoin (and other coin maximalists, for that matter) shut doors and call things scams that have passionate communities behind them truly trying to innovate. In fact, this is why we do the hangouts the way they are today...because it seems too often in the bitcoin ecosystem pumps and dumps are what are promoted by the crypto media (because it gives more bitcoin to them when people buy in). Instead, we want communities with real people and real passion to be represented here.
