The water-level in the Bhadra reservoir touched 184 ft on Tuesday. According to officials, it was 1.5 ft short of the full capacity. They also said that the rise in water-level was due to heavy rain in the catchment areas in Shimoga and Chikmagalur districts in the last two days.

Paniraju, Superintending Engineer at Bhadra reservoir, told presspersons that the water-level in the dam had reached 184.2 ft and all four crust gates had been opened. At present, the inflow into the reservoir was at the rate of 27,168 cusecs and the discharge 37,377 cusecs, he said.

According to Mr. Paniraju, this is the first time that water-level in the reservoir had reached maximum level in July.

G.M. Siddeshwar, Davangere MP, along with the former Horticulture Minister S.A. Ravindranath and Karnataka Janata Paksha leaders M.P. Renukacharya, B.P. Harish, S.V. Ramachandra and Madal Virupakshappa, offered ‘bagina’ at the reservoir. Basavaraj Naik, former MLA, was present.

Addressing a public meeting after offering ‘bagina’, Mr. Siddeshwar said that the Bhadra was the lifeline of not only Shimoga and Bhadravati but also of Davangere and surrounding places. People of Davangere and Shimoga regions were happy as the reservoir had filled up in July.
The Bhadra Dam, which has created the Bhadra Reservoir, is located on the Bhadra River a tributary of Tungabhadra River in Shivamogga District in Bhadravathi Taluk, in the western part of Karnataka in India.
