II Corinthians 4: 4 (the beginning of the magnificent Weight of Glory passage) contains an etymologically interesting word:

"In whom the god of this age blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that the light of the Gospel of the glory of Christ will not shine (augasai) upon them . . . "

That Greek word "augasai" caught my eye. It and its related term augei (brightness, daylight) reminded me of the name of one of the chief deities in the Rig Veda, the first collection of Indian religious verse.

Agni is the God of Fire, associated also with the sun and lightening. And indeed, checking the etymology of his name on Wikipedia, I find the Indo-European root connected to Latin and to the English term "ignite."
