The apostle in the first epistle of Peter teach to us about the importance of being good stewards of the gifts of God, and in particulary the oracles and the gift of prophecy in the spiritual ministry: "If anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God", 1 Peter 4:11. In the scriptures, teaching and prophesyng are the same. In the bible an oracle is a person who teach prophecy; that is to say, a person full of the Holy Spirit ( a person gifted by the love of charity or Agape). But what is a prophecy? To prophesy is the same guide of God (eternal life, John 17:3), and it can fulfill three functions: to(1) correct, (2) to teach, and to (3) reveal the hidden of God.
For example Jesus gives prophecy when he (1) corrects, for example the law of Talion is an heresy (teaching of the error) that takes us away from the path of mercy (compassion, amability, benevolence):
"You have heard that it was said that it was said, "Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth". But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also. And if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, hand over your coat as well. If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles. Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you" Matthew 5:38-42
Another example of Prophecy is when King Solomon teach the justice of God (2):
"Now two prositutes came to the king and stood before him. One of them said, "Oh, my Lord. This woman and I live in the same house, and I had a baby while she was there with me. The third day after my child was born, this woman also had a baby. We were alone; there was no one in the house but the two of us.
During the night this woman's son died because she lay on him. So she got up in the middle of the night and took my son from my side while I your servant was asleep. She put him by her breast and put her dead son by my breast. The next morning, I got up to nurse my son - and he was dead! But when I looked at him closely in the morning light, I saw that it wasn't the son I had borne."
The other woman said, "No! the living one is my son; the dead one is yours".
But the first one insisted, No! the dead one is yours; the living one is mine". And so they argued before the king.
The king said, "This one says, "My son is alive and your son is dead", while that one says, "No! Your son is dead and mine is alive".
Then the king said, "Bring me a sword". So they brought a sword for the king. He then gave an order: "Cut the living child in two and give half to one and half to the other".
The woman whose son was alive was deeply moved out of love for her son and said to the king, "Please, my lord, give her the living baby! Don't kill him!"
But the other said, "Neither, I nor you shall have him. Cut him in two!"
Then the king gave his ruling: "Give the living baby to the first woman. Do not kill him; she is his mother." 1 Kings 3:16-28.
Another form of prophecy is to reveal the hidden of God (3), for example the three wise men knows the intentions of King Herod and they interpret the signs of the sky.
"After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, "Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him."
When King Herod heard this he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him. When he had called together all the people's chief priests and teachers of the law, he asked them where the Messiah was to be born.
"In Bethlehem in Judea", they replied, "for this is what the prophet has written:
"But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah, for out of you will come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel""
Then Herod called the Magi secretly and found out from them the exact time the star had appeared. He sent them to Bethlehem and said, "Go and search carefully for the child. As soon as you find him, report to me, so that I too may go and worship him."
After they had heard the King, they went on their way, and the star they had seen when it rose went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. And having been warned in a dream not to go back to Herod, they returned to their country by another route" Matthew 2:1-12
