The book of Proverbs, whose author was probably the wise King Solomon, seeks with a series of simple teachings to instruct us in the principles of wisdom and the common sense. And one of these principles is the law of the sowing and reaping, this law is a cosmic law of balance, learning, and retribution. The Sacred Scriptures teach us this law in this way: "Do not sow in the furrows of injustice, lest you harvest it sevenfold," Ben Sira 7:3, "For they sow the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind." Hosea 8:7.
And the spiritual gift of mercy (compassion, kindness, gentleness) has a very important relationship with this law, who has mercy with his neighbor, can expect mercy from God and from others; but whoever abandons and despises his brother and acts impiously, will receive the same coin from others, so the proverb teaches: "Whoever shuts their ears to the cry of the poor will also cry out and not be answered" Proverbs 21:13. Mercy is an extremely beautiful spiritual gift that makes us friends with God and with those who need our help, mercy is ethical friendship and a christian beatitude.
The words of the Bible are very wise, the sapiential books do not seek to give us only nice words, but to teach us the importance of fitting in with the ethical laws that operate in the universe, and of transmitting ideas to the develop common sense, but the freedom to choose is within us. We can reject the science of wisdom, but in the long run, a teaching will prevail in our lives: "Wisdom is a shelter as money is a shelter, but the advantage of knowledge is this: Wisdom preserves those who have it" Ecclesiastes 7:12.
