Forgive, and you will be forgiven. What does the bible say about judging and forgiving others

Jesus gives us one of his greatest teaching in Luke 6:37-38 (this teaching is also in Matthew 7:1-5): "Do not judge, and you will not be judge, and do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. Give and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you"

In practical terms: don't get into the life of others, don' t be a person who mutters and spreads gossip.
Jesus teach us to live a life of mercy. Mercy is compassion, affability, benedicence, benevolence. Benevolence is the base of friendship, because is a disposition to be kind, generous with others. Who is benevolent is a friend but not all friends are benevolent. Benedicence instead is the inclination to avoid speaking ill of others, benedicence is in essence to "speaking good words".
Jesus explains that everything we give comes back: is the law of the return, "you reap what you sow"
After this teaching Jesus continues to say:
"Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, "Brother let me take the speck out of yuor eye", when you yourself fail to see the plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your eye, and then you will se clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye" Luke 6:41-42
We have to forgive if we want to be forgiven, we have to accept the faults of others and correct ours. That is to say we have to be progressive, edifyng, just, benevolent, "live according to the spirit".
This whole verse is really a clarification, an extension of the beatitude of mercy: "Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy" Matthew 5:7, also: "Be merciful as your Father is merciful" Luke 6:36

These are principles to live by though it does not always help the forgive. I do believe that our forgiveness does depend on how we forgive. There are so many more parables that repeat the same theme.

Good post.
