Jesus explains to us that there are two ways, the way of the spirit and the way of the flesh. When we live according to the spirit we learn to trust in the promises of God which are the beatitudes, we learn that the most important good is eternal life (the knowledge of God) and not riches. Everything we do in this life is a preparation for the next, that is why it is so important to live the spiritual gifts, Jesus explains that most people are fickle, erratic, shallow, and vain. Among the pagans is very common this heresy: "you only live once".
The Bible explains to us that God provides for those who seek the kingdom of God; that is to say, those who seek the empire of mercy, the government of wisdom, the domain of continuous improvement, according to the beatitudes explained in the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5:1-11 and Luke 6:20-26):
"And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you - you of little faith? So, do not worry saying, ´What shall we eat?´ or ´What shall we drink?´ or ´What shall we wear?´ For the pagan run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.", Matthew 6:28-34
What Jesus is clarifying is that material goods are not a goal by itself, the material goods (which are apparent goods) are a consequence of reaching the true goods of man, the spiritual goods.
