The biblical text, in Revelations 3:15-17 is refered to those christians who trust in wealth to live, is in another sense an allusion to the rational man:
"I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm--neither hot nor cold--I am about to spit you out of my mouth. You say, 'I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.' But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked." Revelations 3: 15-17

This type of Christian is named in the parable of the sower (Luke 8:13);
"Those on the rocky ground are the ones who receive the word with joy when they hear it, but they have no root. They believe for a while, but in the time of testing they fall away."
In a dialogue of Jesus, in the gospel of John, there is another teaching about the lukewarm person:
"Jesus said to Simon Peter: Simon, son of John, do you Agape more than these? Yes, Lord, you know that I philia you" John 21:15-16
Philia is the form of the love that is related with an intermediate state between good and evil, philia is the love that comes from the pleasure to see ourselves reflected in the others, philia is the love of the soul, the love mixed with virtue and friendship.
Agape is the spiritual love, is the love projected to the whole creation of God, agape is the love of charity, the gift of love.
This is why the last beatitute is the one that differentiates the true Christian from the one who does not, the lukewarm is the one who believes but not persevere, the last beatitude is the beatitude of the perseverant man:
"Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you." Matthew 5:10-12
The book of Revelations calls us to persevere, to be determined, to succeed in the days of great difficulties.
