The Bible and the true fear: The LORD Almighty is the one you are to regard as holy, he is the one you are to fear. Isaiah 8:13

Like all the prophets of the Bible, Isaiah taught that the fear of God is the only way to blessedness. Because when men despise the fear of God, men oscillate between the lack of common sense and the madness. And this is so because the spiritual gift of fear of God is fundamentally the good discernment, the edifying, assertive, and progressive mentality. The opposite of the fear of God, and is important to remember, is the hardness of heart and foolishness.
That is why God severely warned the prophet Isaiah not to follow the path of sinners, whoever sins is far from a safe life; and the invasion of the Assyrian empire was imminent, and as a great flood Assyria threatened the kingdoms of Israel and Judah. God's judgment was at the gates of fools.
With these words the prophet wrote God's warning, only he, as the creator of the universe, should be feared:
"Do not call conspiracy
everything this people calls a conspiracy;
do not fear what they fear,
and do not dread it.
The Lord Almighty is the one you are to regard as holy,
he is the one you are to fear,
he is the one you are to dread" Isaiah 8:12-13.
Because the Lord, continued the prophet, had decided to raise up Assyrians and Babylonians as executors of his providential plan, the Lord would become a stumbling block for those who had rejected the covenant with him:
"For both Israel and Judah he will be
a stone that causes people to stumble
and a rock that makes them fall.
And for the people of Jerusalem he will be
a trap and a snare.
Many of them will stumble;
they will fall and be broken,
they will be snared and captured" Isaiah 8:14-15.
With this the prophet Isaiah taught in the Bible what true fear consists of, those who fear only men and live by what others would say, are destined to fail, because it is the Lord with his providence who decides the destiny of things.
