What means the promise to "inherit the land" according to the bible? Commentary and analysis.

The story of the patriarchs in the bible, the book of Genesis, begins with God's promise to Abraham about a chosen people and the promise to inherit the land: "Then He said to him, ´I am the Lord, who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldeans, to give you this land to inherit´", Book of Genesis 15:7
God, in his divine providence, establishes a covenant with Abraham, the old covenant, and the fulfillment of this covenant by God involves granting the land.

In the book of psalms we see what God requires of the chosen people to fulfill his promise:
"Refrain from anger and turn from wrath;
do not fret - it leads only to evil.
For those who are evil will be destroyed,
but those who hope in the Lord will inherit the land." Psalm 37:8-9
The book of psalms is explaining to us that those who lead a life full of sins, those who live according to the flesh are destroyed, they cannot inherit the earth. Instead those who trust in the Lord inherit the promise.
We can interpret this in another context, in ancient times there were two styles of life: the nomadic life of the caravans, of the merchants, and the life settled in the cities. The "chosen people" were for a long time a nomadic people but God with Moses gave them the law and the land.
The settled life, the life of those who own the land is a secure life; the nomad's life is a risky life: the changing and unfavorable climate, the thieves, the diseases, the nomad is always moving. God by promising the land is promising a secure life, a quiet life, and this life is intimately associated with hope, with eternal life.
We see this in a beatitude of Jesus: "Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth", Matthew 5:5
Jesus is explaining to us is that those who inherit the safe life are those who fear God, the pious. The fear of God is defined as constancy, firmness, devotion, equanimity, stability. The devout people inherit the "secure life", "inherit the land". That is, those who have a heart well predisposed to God, to instruction, to wisdom. Devotees, those who have constancy in the word of God, receive the blessing of security in God.
