Commandment 1: You shall have no other gods before Me.
The first step in dividing individuals to perpetuate friction between different faith. If you have no other Gods before you , then you are intolerant to other faith that holds a differing God.
Commandment 2: You shall not make idols.
This is the same connotation as the first commandment. Those that have a different faith are then seen as the out-group.
Commandment 3: You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain.
The reinforcement of division and a mechanism that embeds intolerance. If someone blasphemes then it could spell your demise.
Commandment 4: Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
Saturday is just a day off, not a biblical reason to put your feet up. And most now work Saturday, and have done since time immemorial.
Commandment 5: Honour your father and your mother.
So do I have to honour my parents if they abused me? No. So, this does not work. Especially when this should be earnt and not granted.
Commandment 6: You shall not murder.
This is negotiable, more people have been killed because of religion than any other reason. So, see the first 3 commandments for the source of this intolerance.
Commandment 7: You shall not commit adultery.
This is one I can agree with. So, thou shalt not be unfaithful.
Commandment 8: You shall not steal.
This is the same sense of dishonesty as commandment 7 so I shalt not be dishonest or unfaithful.
Commandment 9: You shall not bear false witness against your neighbour.
This is also the same as 7 and 8, so honesty is a value I can agree too. So we are down to 2 commandments so far i.e. thou shalt not be dishonest or unfaithful and the last commandment is...
Commandment 10: You shall not covet.
So I cannot hope to have what others have succeeded in accomplishing? So to covert is to keep the economy going and create jobs. Hence, (1) I shall not be dishonest or unfaithful and (2) I shall not kill - unless I need to. So, here is your revised list.
