Is it just a story or history of faith?

Exodus 1:8 says that there was a new Pharaoh in Egypt which didn’t know Joseph. Israel has remained a separate race from the Egyptians and they’d grown in number and prospered to the extent that they were viewed as a potential threat in the midst of Egypt. But the Pharaoh didn't want to get rid of the Israelites because they were skilled craftsman, adding great wealth to the nation. By oppressing them with the bondage of hard labor, he was up to subdue them and crush their spirit. When this was found ineffective, the king decided to decrease their number by creating an order that every Hebrew male born alive was to be thrown into the river and drowned.

It was during that time that Moses was born and hid by his mother in a basket and placed him in the river. He was then rescued by the pharaoh’s own daughter. Raised as the pharaoh’s grandson, he was considered part of the royal family but his loyalties remained with his own people.

When Moses killed an Egyptian for beating up a Hebrew, he incurred the wrath of the pharaoh and he fled Egypt to Midian. There, he married the daughter of the priest of Midian a worshipper of the true creator. 40 years later, he was called of God at the burning bush to lead his now enslaved people out of Egypt. The rest of the story is well known but the apparent lack of any evidence has led scholars to either doubt the truth of the entire story to try, to try to downplay the events and explain them in terms of natural science, or explain them is normal events which were blown out of proportion. Ron Wyatt believed they occurred exactly as the bible stated and the children of Israel journeyed from Rameses to Succoth. When the people were given the feast of unleavened bread, God told them:

...for in this selfsame day have I brought your armies out of the land of Egypt.

The Scripture clearly says that they left Egypt that very day and that Succoth was outside of Egypt proper. Moses had asked to take the people on a 3-day journey out of the land of Egypt to worship the true God but by the command of God, Moses knew they would not return. He had been in Midian when he saw the burning bush and had been tasked by the Lord to deliver His people out of bondage. He was ordered by the Lord to lead them to the promised land and were first to come to Mount Sinai to worship God.

Exodus 3:12 ...After you have brought the people out of Egypt, you people shall serve God up on this mountain.

So from Succoth, they set out for Midian and Mount Sinai.

Exodus 13:17 When pharaoh let the people go, God led them not through the way of the land of the Philistines, although that was near; for God said, lest the people repent when they see war and return to Egypt.

The Philistines lived along the coast. Throughout known history, the desolate peninsula located between the two fingers of the red sea has remained uninhabited except for small isolated groups. This desolate and forbidding region was quite reasonably called in the Biblical account the wilderness of the red sea. When they arrived in Etham in the edge of the wilderness, they had almost reached the northern tip of the arm of the red sea called the Gulf of Aqaba but it was here that God has another plan for his people. They were ordered to encamp by the sea. They turned south into the massive canyons into a group of mountains without any perceivable escape route. The winding 18-mile long canyon twisted towards the seashore at times less than 100 feet wide. Once they arrived at the sea, they encamped but in great fear for they probably felt trapped. It is also about 8 miles across from the beach of Nueba. A modern depth map shows that the depths from Nueba beach to the opposite shore reaches a maximum of about 900 feet gently sloping but on each side there were sheer drops of up to 5000 feet.

There certainly appeared to be an underwater path which could have been traveled with the water removed. When Ron and his team first came to Nueba, They went to the south end of the beach.He and the boys in scuba gear investigated what may lie beneath the waters of the crystal clear gulf. On the first dive, Ron found chariot wheels preserved by the coral which had attached to it. He found an axle with portions of each wheel still present. These chariot wheels were very difficult to see and recognize because they are covered and coral and the portions that were not covered have disintegrated. In february of 1988, he found a gold-spoked chariot wheel in the same general area. There's no coral on the main part of the wheel because coral doesn't attach to gold. -Only on the hud area where some wood was exposed when it came off the chariot.

For some people, this Biblical story where Moses, with the help of God of Israel rescued the Israelites and walked in the Red Sea, was just that, a story. He split the sea for the Israelites and when the water returned to a normal level, the evil Pharaoh and his cohorts died in the Red Sea after the Israelites had crossed it to safety. For the faithful, with or without physical evidence, this recorded event, the crossing of the Red sea, shows how much God loves his people.
