And NATO is run by Jens Stoltenberg who displays the intellect of a wonky pinball. And if the CIA doesn’t run Washington, Google and Twitter who in hell or heaven does?
It seems that Dmitry Medvedev’s retirement from the centre of the Kremlin has left him free to say what he really thinks. At the same time Medvedev is now far enough away from the political centre that Putin and Lavrov can always say, “Oh that crazy Dmitry. He’s not a policy maker.” (But they very pointedly don’t admonish him) It’s a sweet arrangement.
Once Medvedev was considered in the West as a proponent of rapprochement with the Atlantic powers. Yet when the test came in 2008 when Medvedev was president he was instant in his military response as a defender of Russia. NATO and the US were behind Georgia’s attempt to seal off the Roki Tunnel, the only practical route north to Russia, in order to end the special status of South Ossetia, declare itself to be now a NATO power and host US nukes. Medvedev’s unhesitating command of the Russian 58th Army countered that move, defeating the Georgians in less than a week (incidentally exposing the flaws in Russia’s armed forces and sparking much needed reforms which have resulted in the Russian Army being the best in the world today)
Whether it was that experience or the 2014 Maidan Nazi-American coup and the subsequent 8 years of constant Western betrayal and refusal to enforce the Minsk peace agreements, Medvedev is no Atlanticist now, that’s for sure. Is he the Russian Donald Trump? I LOVE it!
