Billie Jean King, née Billie Jean Moffitt, (born November 22, 1943, Long Beach, California, U.S.), American tennis participant whose sway and playing style raised the standing of women's professional tennis starting in the late 1960s. In her career she won 39 big titles, competing in both singles and doubles.
She was possibly among the best doubles players in the history of tennis, winning 27 big titles. Together with her successes in 1967, she had been the first girl since 1938 to sweep the U.S. and British singles, doubles, and mixed doubles titles in one calendar year.
